وقد نسبت الجريدة التهديد إلى مصادر لم تسمّها !
وترجّح مصادر فلسطينيّة مطّلعة،أن يكون التقرير من تسريب جهاز الاستخبارات الإسرائيليّة( الموساد)، بقصد توجيه رسائل تهديد لقيادات حركة حماس في الخارج كخطوة أولى، لأنه يتّهمها بأنها تقف وراء العمليات التي وقعت في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة 1948، خلال الأسابيع الماضيًة، وأنه في حال استمرار العمليات ستكون الخطوة الثانيّة، باغتيال قيادات محدّدة ضمن قائمة موجودة لدى الأجهزة الأمنيّة والاستخباريّة الصهيونيّة.
وعلى الرغم من إشارة التقرير إلى اسم صالح العاروري وزاهر جبّارين، كهدفين محتملين للاغتيال، فإن المصادر لا تستبعد أن يكون ذلك في سياق التغطيّة على أسماء أخرى مستهدفة كذلك.
